Portfolio Project Description
Unknown Creatures of America
Illustrated Research Atlas
Project Overview
Unknown Creatures of America is a personal illustration project that explores legendary and unexplained creatures reported across the United States. The project is presented as a fictional illustrated research atlas, combining realistic hand-drawn illustrations with speculative biological analysis.
The book reimagines well-known American cryptids—such as Bigfoot, Mothman, Lizard People, and various lake and river monsters—as if they were documented through systematic field research. Each creature is treated as a case study, focusing on anatomy, habitat, behavior, and environmental context.
Artistic Approach
The illustrations are rendered in a realistic, hand-drawn style inspired by natural history journals and scientific field notes. Visual elements include:
Anatomical studies and structural sketches
Habitat and environmental illustrations
Diagram-style annotations and observational notes
This approach allows the creatures to feel grounded, researched, and believable, while still preserving their mythological origins.
